A dictionary/glossary/lexicon as sort of a cosmic, meeting of the minds, collaboration of the likes of Dan Webster, Sam Johnson, Ambrose Bierce, Hunter S. Thompson, Wm. F. Buckley, Grouch Marx, W. C. Clusterball

Clusterball: Probably not a new word (though our search did not turn up any other meaning...). The very tragic and unfortunate portmanteau of Clusterbomb (or a similar word...) and professional sports (such as in our case today, Major League Baseball). While harkening in the new era of Chemicalball (Era), we have encountered what is probably one of the biggest, professional sport's scandals of our time occurring in multiple teams, states and decades (for example, as previously mentioned, see Lyle Alzado). This doesn't affect just us and our community, nor just the past (the dead, mentioned previously) but the temporal community - that is, the whole range of the community over time. One example: some of the biggest Manny Ramirez fans we know are children. What will be the long term psychosocial effect of them growing up and witnessing (live! this is life, folks!) in the Chemicalball Era? The truth is, we at The Dictionary don't know. Definition: The unexpected tragic and unfortunate outcome of the result of society living in the Chemicalball Era.

Chemicalball (Era)

Updated Again (Sadly): Friday, August 20, 2010
Chemicalball (Era): The very unfortunate and tragic portmanteau of sports doping and professional sports (such as, in our case today, Major League Baseball). Yes, you guessed it, you are now living in the Chemicalball Era. Witness the downfall of many great superstars in this era due to the alleged or otherwise proven use of performance-enhancing chemicals. Most recently Manny Ramirez. Definition: The era of professional sports strongly influenced by (or tainted by) the use of performance-enhancing chemicals (like?: Human chorionic gonadotropin, and others...) by its star players.
And, unfortunate but true, in his new autobiography, Andre Agassi apparently admits to meth use and the cover up of the same against tennis officials. It is a sad extension to the Chemicalball Era. The real crime here might be a philosophical crime (to be defined ...see The Anti-Zen Dictionary...). In younger days, Andre was portrayed as a rebel. Not so, true rebels always shun drugs... The crime was for the rebel not to shun drug use.

FOM: Roger 'Rocket' Clemens Indicted, Unfortunate but true Andre Agassi admits meth use , Andre Agassi, The incredible lies major leaguers will tell, Manny tests positive, is suspended 50 games, Manny Takes an Asterisk on Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, Sports doping, Mannclysm and Mannpoon.

Brief comment: We grew up in the era of Jimmy Piersall - and those guys didn't have to use any of those things! (Of course, mostly because it was unavailable...but they wouldn't have touched it, would they? Nah! Of course not!).

One more thing: To the guys on the bench (or in the field, for that matter), if your procurer approaches you with a performance-enhancing substance and alleges it to be undetectable, he's probably way wroooonnnnnggggg!!!!

Oh, and don't forget what happened to the late, great Lyle Alzado. (Although, there is controversy between the steroid-cancer link). Before he left us, Mr. Alzado tried to warn us of the consequence of getting out what we put into ourselves...

Also, based on a brief comment from one of our Facebook Friends (Mike Varner) we are suggesting that Roger's new nickname could become Roger 'The Dockett'...less the Rocket...er, sorry Roger...

Mannclysm

Mannclysm: The very unfortunate Portmanteau of Manny Ramirez and cataclysm. Witness the effect of the most recent MLB scandal affecting the LA Dodger's sterling performance colliding * with the alleged use and/or abuse of substances such as or like Human chorionic gonadotropin by one of their star players. Definition: The cataclysmic and largely unexpected and undesired result on a sport's team's stellar performance in the aftermath of a top team member caught being tainted by performance-enhancing or other substances. References: Manny tests positive, is suspended 50 games, Hours after Manny news, Dodgers blow big lead, Dodgers tie MLB record with 12-0 home start and Manny Takes an Asterisk on Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.

And, is the title of the Countdown video essay/report prescient or precognitive? Will Manny not just be taking the asterisk, but the fifth? ("As your attorney, I advise you to start drinking heavily.").

Mannpoon

Mannpoon: (Here we go again...) This time, its the tainted, tawdry, tragic and troubled portmanteau of Manny Ramirez and lampoon as witnessed on "Manny Takes an Asterisk" on Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC (last night, Thursday, May 7, 2009). Definition: The deliberate lampooning of and while reporting on a major sporting/ professional figure mired in some new and unfortunate controversy. Reference: Manny tests positive, is suspended 50 games.

The folks at MSNBC seem to have a great talent (or procilivity) for this sort of thing, see also: Kenpoon.
